Recent quick moves to online or remote instruction has forced us all to think differently about what it means to create a classroom space and the approaches we as educators take to support student learning. With the online or remote context in mind, this fully online course is designed to get participants to think holistically about the learning environment they wish to create, explore the social and digital influences on the LE and to become more intentional about designing learning experiences that reflect 21st-century values and priorities of learning and teaching.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be better prepared to:
structure and design their virtual learning spaces to reflect 21-century skills development,
translate the values of the face to face traditional classroom to the online learning context,
develop lesson plans that appropriately use technology for learning remotely,
apply best practices in online/remote teaching.
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
Identify the various influences on the digital learning environment
Use lessons from the informal learning experience to inform learning design
Articulate your priorities in 21st-century skills and design your learning environment appropriately.
Critically analyze what technology tools communicate about the learning environment.
Use the Community of Inquiry framework to create ‘presence’ in the digital learning environment.
Design lessons that effectively uses web-based technology to reflect the needs of 21-century learning.

Timeline and Requirements:
The course runs over a period of 2 ½ weeks. This instructor-led, fully online course is made of 3 lessons, each lasting 5 days (excluding holidays). Each lesson consists of a 75 min synchronous session, selected readings, videos and web resources, and an assignment submission.
Submission of all assignments and participation in the 3 synchronous sessions would be required to earn PDPs for this course.
Class meeting dates are Tuesdays, July 7, 14, and July 21st. All sessions will start at 4:30 pm -5:45 pm Eastern Standard Time.
Fees & Policies:
Tuition includes all instructional materials. Participants receive a certificate of participation and professional development points.
Payment is due by credit card at registration. Refunds will be granted only up to the first day of class/program.
